The 2026 Senate race
North Carolina’s contested U.S. Senate general election is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026. The field includes 27 candidates: eight Democrats, 13 Republicans and six candidates running with Libertarian, Green, Independent, Other or OE affiliations. Roy Cooper is running as a Democrat.
The candidates are seeking the seat held by Republican incumbent Thom Tillis. The field includes Tillis and 26 challengers. The party or affiliation recorded for each candidate gives voters a basic way to identify the field, but it does not establish a candidate’s views on individual issues.
