Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson launches reelection campaign

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson launched his reelection campaign Sunday at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center on the city’s South Side. The event opened Johnson’s campaign for another term as mayor.

Chicago’s mayoral election is scheduled for Feb. 23. Johnson is one of 11 people named in the field. The campaign launch and the election are separate steps: Sunday’s event announced Johnson’s reelection effort, while voters are scheduled to cast ballots in the mayoral election on Feb. 23.

• Matt Brewer is in the field and formerly led the Chicago Housing Authority.
• George Cardenas is in the field and is a former Chicago alderman.
• Danielle Carter-Walters is in the field and serves as vice president of Chicago Flips Red.
• Alexi Giannoulias is in the field and serves as Illinois secretary of state.
• Joe Holberg is in the field and is a businessman.
• John Kelly is in the field and is a lobbyist.
• Susana Mendoza is in the field and serves as Illinois comptroller.
• Lisa Nee is in the field and is a cardiologist.
