Crowley calls for repeal of Wisconsin fuel markup law

David Crowley called for Wisconsin to repeal its minimum markup law for gasoline and diesel. In a Sept. 16, 2026, press release published by Urban Milwaukee, Crowley said repeal would lower gasoline prices by more than 40 cents per gallon and diesel prices by 56 cents.

Crowley described Wisconsin’s diesel price as a record per gallon, exceeding a record set earlier in the year. He also cited Politico for the claim that diesel prices had increased nearly 60% over the preceding 12 months.

Urban Milwaukee identifies the page as a press release submitted by Crowley, not an article written by its newsroom. The publication states that it does not guarantee the release’s accuracy or completeness.

Crowley targets Tiffany over federal policy

Crowley attributed the higher fuel prices to the Trump administration’s war with Iran and criticized U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany’s votes related to the conflict. Crowley also connected fuel costs with tariffs supported by Trump and Tiffany, arguing that those policies are putting additional pressure on households, farmers, manufacturers and truck drivers.

The release cited a separate estimate that tariffs would cost each Wisconsin household. It also pointed to an earlier statement from Tiffany that 2026 was on course to have the lowest gasoline prices since 2020.

Crowley said he would pursue repeal of the minimum markup law as governor. The release did not identify a specific bill or legislative timetable for making that change.
