Lawmakers honor staffers who keep Congress running

A bipartisan tribute

A bipartisan group of lawmakers honored congressional staffers Thursday at The Hill’s annual Notable Staffers event. Sens. Cynthia Lummis, a Wyoming Republican, and Cory Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, took part alongside Reps. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat, and Bobby Scott, a Virginia Democrat.

Each lawmaker honored members of their staff who appeared on this year’s Notable Staffers list. The event focused on how those aides help Congress function from day to day.

Recognition across Congress

Lummis and Booker brought Senate offices to the program, while Raskin and Scott represented House offices. Their participation made the recognition bipartisan and included both chambers, with one Republican and three Democrats honoring aides from their respective teams.

The lawmakers presented that work as integral to Congress rather than separate from the work associated with elected members.

Focus on staff, not a race

Thursday’s gathering was not linked to a candidate contest or election. It was an annual workplace recognition event built around this year’s list and the staff members featured on it. By taking part, the four lawmakers used the event to direct attention to the people who support their congressional offices.
