Ohio lawmakers may return for 90-day gas tax suspension

The proposal

Ohio lawmakers could make an unexpected return to Columbus next week to take up a plan to suspend the state gas tax for 90 days. Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy unveiled the proposal Monday.

The plan is temporary rather than a permanent repeal of the tax. Its 90-day limit would define how long the suspension remains in effect, after which the pause would end under the proposal.

The announcement does not by itself change the gas tax. Lawmakers would need to return and act before the proposed suspension could take effect.
