‘Pluribus’ wins six Emmys after filming in Albuquerque

Six awards for an Albuquerque production

“Pluribus” won six Emmy Awards after receiving 18 nominations, giving the Albuquerque-made Apple TV series national recognition. Four awards had been secured before the main Emmy broadcast, where Rhea Seehorn won outstanding lead actress.

Seehorn thanked creator Vince Gilligan for the role and for building a collaborative set where artists could take risks. “Pluribus” is Gilligan’s third production filmed in New Mexico, following earlier work that included “Breaking Bad,” the series that brought greater attention to Albuquerque as a television and film location.

More than 1,400 New Mexicans employed

The first season was filmed on a custom-built Albuquerque set and employed more than 1,400 New Mexicans. That workforce included more than 500 crew members, 100 principal actors and 800 background actors.

Adrian Gomez, program outreach coordinator for the New Mexico Film Office, said New Mexicans were among the people receiving Emmy recognition for the series. The awards highlight both the performers seen on screen and the local workers involved in production.

Industry activity remains uneven

The Emmy wins come as New Mexico’s production industry shows mixed signs. Local crew members and union members have reported less available work than during the 2022 production boom.

Two productions, Netflix’s “The Boroughs” and “Ransom Canyon,” left the state within the past six months. At the same time, state figures show production activity increased from 62 projects in fiscal year 2024 to 80 in the following fiscal year. New Mexico has approved 20 productions so far in the current fiscal year.
