Trump weighs Guilfoyle’s future

President Donald Trump said Monday that his administration is considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid allegations about her conduct before and during her diplomatic service.

He added, “We’re not happy.” Trump had taken a less critical tone Friday, saying he had heard only a little about the matter and that Guilfoyle had always been nice.

Guilfoyle, a former Trump campaign surrogate, has served as ambassador since 2025. She previously worked at Fox News and was engaged to Donald Trump Jr., the president’s oldest son.

Allegations and investigation

A Trump donor alleged that Guilfoyle tried to persuade him to pay toward eliminating her credit card debt shortly before her confirmation hearing. The allegation has not been established as fact.

The State Department’s Office of Inspector General is investigating Guilfoyle and the U.S. Embassy in Greece, two people familiar with the decision confirmed to NBC News.

Separate allegations concern Guilfoyle’s conduct as ambassador. The Wall Street Journal reported that she spoke about connections to wealthy Greek business figures whom she said financed luxury travel for her, citing people who heard the conversation and an audio recording. NBC News had not independently confirmed those claims.

An attorney for Guilfoyle did not immediately respond to NBC News about Trump’s Monday comments. Trump did not announce when he would decide whether to remove her.

What to watch

  • Whether Trump removes Guilfoyle from the ambassador post
  • Any findings from the inspector general investigation
  • A response from Guilfoyle or her attorney
