Trump says Guilfoyle’s position is under review

President Donald Trump said his administration is considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle as U.S. ambassador to Greece.

The White House has not announced a decision or a timetable for one.

Trump made the comments after businessman Eric Deters alleged that Guilfoyle asked him to wire to cover her American Express bill in exchange for her help with the Trump administration before her Senate confirmation hearing. Deters shared screenshots of text messages with CBS News, including one in which Guilfoyle appeared to request a wire transfer.

Deters said he did not send the money. He characterized the alleged request as an attempt to exchange money for access or assistance.

Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputes the messages

Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputed the authenticity of the text messages in comments to The Wall Street Journal. White House officials were told the messages were authentic, and some Trump administration aides expressed displeasure about Guilfoyle’s actions.

Trump nominated Guilfoyle to serve as the top U.S. diplomat in Greece. Her Senate confirmation hearing took place in July 2025, and the Senate confirmed her in September 2025.

Guilfoyle was visible during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Greece last week. When reporters asked Rubio about Deters’ allegations, he declined to comment, saying the story had been published only hours earlier.

What to watch

  • Whether the White House announces a decision on Guilfoyle’s position
  • Whether Guilfoyle or her lawyer issues a further response
  • Whether the State Department addresses her diplomatic status
  • Whether the administration begins a formal review of the allegation
