Senate race

Virginia voters will elect one of the state’s two U.S. senators to a six-year term on Nov. 3, 2026. The contest listed by NBC is between incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner and Republican Bert Mizusawa.

Warner serves alongside Democratic Sen. Timothy Kaine. The Senate race will not affect Kaine’s seat in this election.

All 11 House seats are on the ballot

Each of Virginia’s 11 U.S. House districts will hold an election because representatives serve two-year terms. NBC’s Decision Desk identifies the 1st and 2nd districts as key contests, but its ratings are assessments rather than election results.

In the 1st District, Democrat Shannon Taylor is running against Republican Rep. Robert Wittman, the district’s current representative. NBC rates that contest a toss-up.

In the 2nd District, Democrat Elaine Luria is running against Republican Rep. Jen Kiggans, the district’s current representative. NBC rates that contest as leaning Democratic.

Virginia’s other current House members are Bobby Scott in the 3rd District, Jennifer McClellan in the 4th, John McGuire in the 5th, Ben Cline in the 6th, Eugene Vindman in the 7th, Donald Beyer in the 8th, Morgan Griffith in the 9th, Suhas Subramanyam in the 10th and James Walkinshaw in the 11th.

Virginia’s recent presidential voting

Virginia voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in each election from 2016 through 2024. Democrats received 50.2% of the state’s presidential vote in 2016, 54.1% in 2020 and 51.8% in 2024. Republicans received 44.8%, 44% and 46.1%, respectively.

In 2024, Kamala Harris carried Virginia by 5.8 percentage points and received the state’s 13 electoral votes.
