What to know about Alaska’s 2026 elections

Federal races

Alaska voters will choose a U.S. senator, a U.S. representative and a governor on Nov. 3, 2026.

The NBC News Alaska election page lists three people in the Senate contest: Democrat Mary Peltola, Republican Dan Sullivan and Republican Daniel Sullivan Jr. The winner will hold one of Alaska’s two Senate seats for a six-year term.

Alaska’s U.S. House seat is also up for election. The state has one congressional district, currently represented by Republican Nick Begich. House members serve two-year terms, placing the seat on the ballot every even-numbered year.

Race for governor

Four people are listed in the governor’s race: Democrats Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins and Tom Begich, and Republicans Bernadette Wilson and Dave Bronson. Each receives the same place on the current candidate list, which also directs voters to the primary contests.

Republican Mike Dunleavy is the current governor. Other statewide officeholders listed are Republican Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom and Republican Attorney General Cori Mills. Alaska’s current U.S. senators are Republicans Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski.

Alaska’s recent presidential vote

Republican presidential candidates carried Alaska in each of the past three elections shown. Donald Trump received 54.5% in 2024, compared with 41.4% for Kamala Harris, a margin of 13.1 percentage points.

In 2020, the Republican share was 52.8% and the Democratic share was 42.8%. In 2016, Republicans received 52.8% and Democrats received 37.6%. These presidential results describe past statewide voting and do not decide the outcome of Alaska’s 2026 contests.
