What to know about the 2026 Massachusetts elections

Offices on the ballot

Election Day is Nov. 3. Massachusetts voters will elect a governor, one of the state’s two U.S. senators and representatives for all nine U.S. House districts. The ballot will also include lieutenant governor, attorney general and secretary of state.

In the U.S. Senate contest, Democratic incumbent Edward Markey is listed alongside Republican John Deaton. The governor’s race includes Democratic incumbent Maura Healey and Republican Michael Minogue.

For lieutenant governor, Democratic incumbent Kimberley Driscoll is listed with Republican Shawn Oliver. The attorney general’s contest includes Democratic incumbent Andrea Campbell and Republican Michael Walsh. For secretary of state, the listing includes Democratic incumbent William Galvin and a Republican entry identified as “Total Write-ins.”

Primary contests are part of the election process for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House and statewide offices.

Massachusetts presidential vote history

Massachusetts backed the Democratic presidential candidate in each of the past three presidential elections. In 2024, Kamala Harris received 61.2% of the statewide vote, while the Republican candidate received 36%. Harris carried the state by 25.2 percentage points and received its 11 electoral votes.

The Democratic share was 65.6% in 2020, compared with 32.1% for the Republican candidate. In 2016, the Democratic candidate received 61%, while the Republican candidate received 33.3%.

Current federal delegation

Massachusetts’ current senators are Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, both Democrats. Its nine U.S. House members are Richard Neal, Jim McGovern, Lori Trahan, Jake Auchincloss, Katherine Clark, Seth Moulton, Ayanna Pressley, Stephen Lynch and Bill Keating, all Democrats.
