What Virginia voters will decide in the 2026 elections

Federal contests on the ballot

Virginia’s 2026 general election is scheduled for Nov. 3, with one U.S. Senate seat and all 11 of the state’s U.S. House seats on the ballot.

The Senate contest includes Democratic incumbent Mark Warner and Republican Bert Mizusawa. The winner will serve a six-year term.

The NBC News Virginia election page highlights two House contests. In the 1st Congressional District, Democrat Shannon Taylor and Republican Robert Wittman are running. In the 2nd Congressional District, Democrat Elaine Luria and Republican Jen Kiggans are running.

Virginia’s current U.S. House members are Robert Wittman, Jen Kiggans, Bobby Scott, Jennifer McClellan, John McGuire, Ben Cline, Eugene Vindman, Donald Beyer, Morgan Griffith, Suhas Subramanyam and James Walkinshaw.

Virginia’s recent presidential vote

Virginia supported the Democratic presidential candidate in each of the past three elections. In 2016, the Democratic candidate received 50.2% of the statewide vote, compared with 44.8% for the Republican candidate.

In 2020, the Democratic share rose to 54.1%, while the Republican candidate received 44%. In 2024, Kamala Harris received 51.8% and Donald Trump received 46.1%. Harris carried Virginia by 5.8 percentage points and received the state’s 13 electoral votes.
