Federal races

West Virginia voters will choose one U.S. senator and representatives in both U.S. House districts on Nov. 3, 2026. The Senate contest is for a six-year term. NBC News lists Rachel Anderson as the Democratic candidate and Shelley Capito as the Republican candidate and incumbent.

West Virginia’s two congressional districts are also on the ballot, as they are every two years. Carol Miller is the current representative for District 1, and Riley Moore is the current representative for District 2; both are Republicans.

Current offices

Jim Justice is West Virginia’s other U.S. senator and is a Republican. Republicans also hold the statewide offices listed for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state and attorney general.

Those officials are Gov. Patrick Morrisey, Lt. Gov. Randy E. Smith, Secretary of State Kris Warner and Attorney General John B. McCuskey. The federal contests in 2026 will determine who holds the Senate seat on this cycle and each of the state’s two House seats.

Presidential voting history

In recent presidential elections, Republicans received a majority of West Virginia’s vote. In 2024, Donald Trump received 70% while Kamala Harris received 28.1%, a margin of 41.9 percentage points. NBC News identified that as Trump’s second-largest margin among the 50 states.

The Republican share was 68.6% in both 2020 and 2016. The Democratic share was 29.7% in 2020 and 26.5% in 2016. West Virginia had four electoral votes in the 2024 presidential election.
